Modern times is a film who gives us a lot of expectations about our future, in terms of technology. This essay is focus in explain how technology can have a positive influence in our life and make it better. Also I will analize some of the disadvantages of technology that affect humans, related with the movie. Besides I will reflect about how rapidly technology is evoling and the importance of humans in the modernization. Finally I will relate this with education in a way that could contribute in the students´ life and learning.
Since the industrial revolution, technology has been evolving in a fast way in order to make our lives easier. Now, it is not necessary to make an anourmus effort working. We have machines which can make the heavy jobs when people is not able to make them. Technology has been a positive influence in our working life, with factories and wholesale productions people have more opportunities to get a job. Besides, machines are still depending of humans, we can not say that they can work by themselves, actually, there is always people cheking how it is working and when it gets spoiled, it is a human who fixes it.
Despite all these, there are always some disadvantages which affect in a negative way our lives. Although factories offer more jobs, there is a problem with the human rights which sometimes are not respected. In most of the factories there are too long work shifts per day. In the movie we can see how the boss harassed the workers even when they were in the bathroom. Factories try to take advantage of every second of the day making production. Machines can be turned on for weeks or months but people need to rest. Because of technology humans have had to make an inmense effort to proove that they are still useful when they are compare with machines, something which is totally unacceptable. In any way humans could be replace, but it is a fact that technology is covering a wide work´s field that puchs people to make a double effort.
Having in mind the facts mentioned above, it is difficult to have and idea of how much techonology is going to develop. Few centuries ago humans where the creators of everything in our world. Since industrialization, technology have took an important role in our working and daily life. Now, the human mind is helping to develop new machines and devices that sometimes displace our humans abilities. Sometimes we do not need to remember things, we have our electronic diary, or we do not even need to wash our dishes, there is wash dishes´s machine which makes the job. We do not have an idea of what is going to happen in the future, and especially, we do not know if someday technology is going to replace completely our humans capacities.
We know that it is every day more difficult to compete with the advantages that technology gives us, but what we can do is use them in our favour. In education, technology has an crucial role, especially in the classroom. Students are more interested in playing with their cellphones instead of paying attention to the class. And commonly, classes are more interactive and dynamics when teachers use resources like power points, videos, radios or computers. Old-fashioned methods, like dictate contents and copy things from the board are lefting behind and now is technology a big contribution in education.
Summarizing, techonology is an important feature which characterized modernity. The new equipments and machines are the ones which make our life a little bit easier. Although there are some situations where people are left apart by machines, most of the time, humans take advantages of them and use them in their favour. As teachers we should make the same. It is time to improve the old teaching methods in the classrooms, and technology is and excellent way to do it. Sometimes technology exceeds a lot of the abilities that humans have, but there is no way that it can replace them. Certainly, we do not have a clear idea of what technology is going to reach, and also it is difficult to know how important is going to be years later, but what we know now is that technology is a resource that we can use to make our lives easier, and as teachers, it gives us the opportunity to make better classes and integrate these resources to our students lives.
